Brand new for 2020, Susan and I have put our heads together to present a MYSTERY afghan knit a long! This piece pulls together our love of knitting with the bond shared in days past, similar to a quilting bee.
This unique design exclusively created for Yarnability by Susan Wolcott, will feature nine garter based squares designed to look like traditional quilt squares.
Techniques include basic knitting, increases and decreases, short rows, miters, and modular knitting. Squares are created with as much continuous knitting and minimal seaming as possible using additional techniques of picking up and pick up and join. The rest is a mystery, one square a month revealed.
Class Schedule: This KAL will meet once a month for 3 month intervals, with a month in between before the next series of 3 months. The classes will meet on the first Thursday and Sunday of each month starting January 9 and 12. Some date variations may occur due to schedules and holidays, see the Yarnability Calendar for up to date meeting days and times.
Yarn: Prairie Spun DK by Brown Sheep. 1 skein per color needed to begin project.
Yarn Quantity: 4 colors plus a border color. See suggested color combinations below. Quantity is dependent on how many colors are used, so yarn may be purchased as you go.
Size: Approximately 66” x 66”.
Size can be increased or decreased by border rows and yarn used. The sample and pattern use a DK yarn. A lighter weight yarn will result in a smaller size and a heavier yarn will result in larger as stitch and row counts will remain the same.
Needles: US size 5-8, depending on yarn. For the first class you will need DPNS and a 32″ circular in the needle size you’re using
Gauge: Ideally 5 sts per inch
Supplies: stitch markers, tapestry needle, scissors
Class Fee: $100 covers all 9 class meetings during the year and your exclusive pattern copy, when you purchase your project yarn at Yarnability.
If you bring stash yarn for class project, the class fee of $200 will be charged to you. This will include your copy of the pattern.
