Beginner’s Brioche (two colors in the round)

Brioche knitting is a style that has increased in popularity with knit design during the last decade. This deliciously squishy texture creates a double sided fabric with stitches that have a 3-D appearance.

In brioche knitting you learn how to utilize knit, purl, and slipped stitches worked together to create a new row of knitting.

If you have wanted to try your hands at brioche style knitting, join me at Yarnability to learn beginner’s brioche worked in the round, using 2 colors of yarn.

This class will be using the Hawthorne Cowl pattern from Circle of Stitches. This simple cowl will ease you into the world of brioche, but result in a gorgeous knit piece that can be worn right or wrong side out. You will definitely get a lot of compliments with this piece. Please see HOMEWORK note at the end of the page!

Class Size:  4 student limit per class. Register Now!

Skills Needed: Intermediate. Students should be able to knit and purl independently and able to work in the round.

Skills to be Learned: Brioche knitting terms, yarn overs, slip stitches, pattern reading, use of 2 strands of yarn

Class Fee: $30 with yarn purchase at Yarnability. (not including tax) Class fee is $60 if you bring your own yarn from stash.

Yarn:  2 skeins of Malabrigo Rios (or any worsted weight yarn)

Needles: US size 8 circular with 24″ cable

Notions: stitch marker

Pattern:  Hawthorne Cowl  is Free on Ravelry.

HOMEWORK:  Choose a Main color and a Contrast color. Using your main color, Cast on 110 stitches in the round. Join in the round and knit 5 rows for a rolled stockinette edge or alternate knit and purl rows for a garter edge – your choice!

Important! This class will take place IN-PERSON in store. Classes that occur outside of normal business hours will have two separated class tables of 3 seats. Classes that occur during business hours will be limited to one table of 4 seats to maintain safe distancing. Hand sanitizer is available. All students will be required to wear a mask that covers both their mouth and nose throughout the class. No food or drink will be permitted.
