Yarnability Classes

Yarnability offers a variety of classes for beginners to advanced students. We provide project-guided classes — see our Calendar — as well as beginner instruction in knitting and crochet — see our Learn/Enhance classes. Class sizes are small in order to provide you with time and attention.

Are my materials included in the cost of the class?  Class costs cover the education and time with the instructor to learn the project/pattern. Yarnability offers a range of products for a range of budgets and fiber preferences. Project materials can often be purchased from $15 to $40.

What is your refund policy?  Class fees are not refundable unless the class is canceled by the shop. If cancellation is made prior to 48 hours of class start time, you will be provided with a store credit for use for any future purchase with the shop. Your registration is valid for the dates listed in the description only.

Do you offer children’s classes?  We do offer classes for both crocheting and knitting for children ages 8 and up. Please email to request a date/time. Additionally, parent/child classes are also offered.

What do I learn?

Knitting and Crochet: Introduction to reading a yarn label, understanding how to choose a needle or hook size, fiber content and yarn weights.
Knitting: Learn how to cast on stitches and create the knit stitch. Both Continental and English methods can be taught.
Crochet: Learn how to make a foundation chain, a single crochet and half double crochet.

How many classes are needed to learn?

Three classes are often a good start for learning to knit or crochet. During these three classes you will gain a solid understanding of how yarn is created with a variety of fibers. You will learn how to read yarn labels and choose the right tools. Knitting students learn to cast on, create the knit stitch, the purl stitch, and how to bind off. During this time, knitting students will also learn how to combine knit and purl stitches to create patterned stitches (i.e. garter stitch, stockinette stitch, and seed stitch). Knitting students will learn how to "read their knitting." Crochet students learn to make a foundation chain, create a single crochet, a half double crochet, and a double crochet stitch. Crochet students learn about chain stitches and turning their projects. They will also learn the anatomy of a stitch to create a variety of patterns (i.e. front leg, back leg).

What does Enhance mean for Learn/Enhance Class?

Enhance your skills! This time is for those students that have learned the basics of knitting or crochet and want to advance their skills. We can offer assistance with pattern reading, learn new techniques, or providing help with a current project.

Do you teach classes for kids?

Kids ages 8 and up are welcome to join any learn to knit or crochet class. Parents are encouraged (but not required) to sign up and participate in class along with their children so that they may help at home with projects.
